Trying to think of something new to say after all these years is quite difficult and time consuming. Will you be better off for it? Will I?
I've been making jewelry for well-over 30 years. Ok, my daughter said I need to update that. So, I'll tell you... It's been 40 years! OUCH!
I don't make as much jewelry as I used to. It seems the jewelry business, as I knew it, has been depressed for about a decade and I've not returned to the marketing merry go round. I'm not sure it's worth the time, money or risk, at this point in time. I used to be represented in 8 or more galleries.
So, right now I'm teaching. It's very rewarding and the enthusiasm of students is exciting... join me! Or learn it yourself... if you have the time. This is the fun stuff! Your passion has dictated your path. So take the next step and come to class with "me me ".
Despite my artistic beginnings for jewelry in high school (Taos)... I'm an autodidact in many subjects. Yet I remain an artistic old hippie in sheep's clothing, without a leader. Though some nights I come out as a wolf. Best not to wear red capes and hoodies around me... when the moon is full.
In my current life I herd chickens, gather their eggs, and have 4 cats to catch mice so they can bring them in for show and tell. I grow food, but my garden sucked in '09. Not enough sun or warm weather... Hey! Where's that global warming? Bummer... because last year was a great harvest! This year's seeds have already sprouted (now under lights) and I'm anxious to get them into the ground... maybe install a grow light IN the greenhouse!
Most of us want peace in the world... but I wonder - if you have peace, you must have it's opposite. You know, the other side of the coin, this too shall pass, left v right, and all that duality stuff. So I content myself with whatever I am at any given moment. Sometimes I'm up, sometimes down. Sometimes one is right and sometimes taken (conned), or sometimes one is left, instead of right. In the desire for peace we must expect its opposite.
"Drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library
and educate yourself if you've got any guts. Some of you like Pep rallies and plastic robots who tell you what to read." - Frank Zappa
